However, as I was taken off the plane by ambulance on my return to Bristol Airport from Rome, I was unable to collect my car. Glynis managed to contact a chap called Roger who said not to worry, as it was an emergency it wouldn't be a problem.
His company, however took a less tolerant view and could only see my situation as a money making situation for them. As Roger had said not to worry and I was ill, I was unable to arrange to get the car out of the car park for 6 days.
After 6 days I contacted my Breakdown provider, Ford Assist, to ask if they could help, and they said it might take a while but they could do a Compassionate recovery of my car to Devon, (Thank You Ford Assist) However when I told the car park the car was going to be collected they said I would have to pay 6 days overstay parking charges of £90 before they would release the car, advising me that I could claim it back on my Holiday Insurance!
(Incidentally the Holiday Insurance declined the claim as it was related to a medical condition after I returned to UK, which is excluded from their policy)
So from now on Bristol Siver Zone with be referred to by me as Long John Silver Zone, since they are mercenary pirates taking advantage of a medical emergency to make themselves more money. The over stay charge was bigger that the daily rate for the paid for parking!
I did pay the charge, and car is now safely home, however I will be writing to them again to inform them that they are mercenary pirates and I will not be using their services again.
Update: December 12th 2023
I did contact them and also Holiday Extras, the company the original booking was made through but had heard nothing positive back from them.
However, after contacting BBC Spotlight this morning I have received an email from Bristol Airport to say they will refund the overstay payment. I am now waiting to see when this arrives in my account.
